Emile Heskey concerned about BAME deaths ahead of Premier League restart

Emile Heskey admits he would be “100 per cent concerned” if he was still playing with the coronavirus wreaking havoc in the BAME community.

Public Health England is already investigating the reasons for the disproportionately high number of black, Asian and ethnic minority deaths.

Heskey’s fears follow those of a number of BAME players worried about the risks to their safety if Project Restart gets the go-ahead.

Around 35 per cent of patients critically ill from Covid-19 are from black, Asian and ethnic minorities. The BAME death rate is more than twice that of white victims, according to the Institute of Fiscal Studies.
