Emmerdale cast and crew will be "prodded with poles" if they fail to social distance properly, ITV bosses have said. The ITV soap became the first in the UK to resume filming last month, with its special lockdown episodes set to begin airing next week.

And as the rest of the cast return to set, bosses have imposed strict rules amid the coronavirus pandemic - including that everyone must remain two meters apart.

ITV boss John Whiston, said: “We have handed out poles to staff and they will prod the actors and cameramen if they get too close.” Emmerdale bosses have also been struggling to tackle a "challenging" storyline amid the guidelines - which they have said is "too far down the line to change".
