Erling Haaland turned down the opportunity to join Serie A champions Juventus in January because they wanted to put him in the Under-23 squad.

The strike sensation, 19, was the subject of interest from Europe's top teams, including Manchester United, after his flying start to the season with RB Salzburg.

Haaland chose to join Borussia Dortmund in for a bargain price of £18m, where he has continued his rich vein of goalscoring with 12 goals in his first 13 appearances.

The son of former Manchester City player Alf-Inge Haaland and Norwegian national heptathlete champion Gry Marita could have chosen to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus, who were interested in him.
