A court case gets under way in Brussels this morning in which the EU will seek an order obliging the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to deliver some 90 million Covid-19 vaccine doses by the end of June.
The European Commission is taking the legal action after accusing the company of repeatedly failing to meet contractual delivery schedules.
AstraZeneca has said it will defend itself against the charges and that it has complied with the terms of its EU contract. Lawyers for the European Commission will seek an injunction from the judge that would effectively order AstraZeneca to meet a target of 90 million doses by the end of June.
