The expert behind a highly optimistic prediction that just 5,700 Brits would die from coronavirus has admitted it could prove to be a major underestimation.
Scientist Tom Pike said his figure failed to take fully into account the scale of the threat the nation faces in its fight against Covid-19.
The professor of microengineering from Imperial College said the country remains in a "dangerous state" in dealing with the growing pandemic.
He estimated the UK's death toll would peak at 260 per day, assuming a similar pattern to Wuhan where the virus originated, reports the Daily Mail.
