Footballers want help for increased workload as FIFPRO call for safeguards ahead of condensed campaign

FIFPRO have called for safeguards to be put in place to ensure player workloads are managed if Scotland follows the rest of Europe into a condensed 2020/21 season.Domestic leagues around Europe are suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic with no games having been played in Scotland for almost three weeks.

National associations are gathering via video conference on Wednesday for an update from two working groups set up by the continent's football governing body UEFA, one of which is looking at the fixture calendar.

It is understood leagues are creating the conditions to play on into July and even August if necessary to complete the 2019-20 season.The Scottish Cup will likely be played next season while the Europa League - involving Rangers
