A Miss England winner is helping lead the fight for coronavirusvaccines as part of the Oxford University team. Dr Carina Tyrrell, 31, won the modelling contest in 2014 before landing a job investigating pandemics for the World Health Organisation.
She was still working on this project last Spring when the spread of coronavirus forced lockdowns across the globe. Since then Dr Tyrrell and her colleagues have helped analyse data from hundreds of vaccine trials including Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford AstraZeneca.
She said: "I still really support both Miss World and Miss England and I still judge the Miss England contest. "But I didn't think six years on I would be part of a team searching for a vaccine during a global pandemic on this scale.
