Fourth-year nursing students who are currently working as interns in hospitals are set to be paid more, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has confirmed.

In an update to its student members the INMO said that the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive had clarified that fourth-year interns, who were earning less than Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), will now be paid on the HCA salary scale.

The HCA salary scale starts at €13.82 per hour. First, second and third-year students, whose placements were cancelled, were already entitled to apply to work as HCAs, and part of that work would count towards their clinical placement hours.

Denise Pierson cold case: Officials announce charges relating to 1981 murder in Delaware County

Wayne Anthony Walker (R) has been charged in connection with the murder of, Denise Marie Pierson (L), an 18 year-old who disappeared in 1981 and was found dead in 1984. (Delaware County District Attorney's Office/Pennsylvania State Police)MEDIA, Pa - Pennsylvania State Police and the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office announced charges in connection to the 1981 murder of Denise Pierson, on Friday afternoon. Pierson was an 18-year-old Marcus Hook resident who disappeared on April 14, 1981. Her remains were found in July 1981 and an autopsy determined the manner of death as homicide by blunt impact to the head.According to authorities, 58-year-old Wayne Anthony Walker has been charged with criminal homicide, kidnapping, conspiracy, first-degree murder, second-degree murder and third-degree murder.
