Half of the world’s workforce faces losing their jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, the United Nations agency warned tonight.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) sharply altered its forecast of unemployment as a direct result of the devastating impact Covid-19 has had worldwide.
Coronavirus has infected 3.1 million people globally and killed nearly 220,000 as of Wednesday – 26,000 of which in the UK. Globally, countries have been forced to close borders and prevent the socialising of its citizens in mass lockdowns.
The resulting effect has left the economy in tatters as people are unable to go to work or perform daily tasks. ILO Director-General Guy Ryder, said: "It shows I think in the starkest possible terms that the jobs
