The number of UK workers on payrolls fell by 649,000 between March and June as the coronavirus crisis claimed another 74,000 jobs last month, according to the Office for National Statistics.
In worse news for people looking for work, vacancies in the UK in April to June 2020 are at the lowest level since the vacancy survey began in April to June 2001, at an estimated 333,000.
That's 23% lower than the previous record low in April to June 2009. There was a glimmer of hope, with the rate of decline slowing into June - however the ONS added that this was before the recent spate of job losses were reported.
