Homelessness has been on the rise in Salford for some time – but the coronavirus crisis has been a turning point for those affected by it.Council bosses say single-person accommodation is in high demand.And with fewer people moving out of social housing since the start of the pandemic, the turnover in temporary accommodation has been slow.Kevin O’Kell became homeless for the first time in his life last August.The 39-year-old was a supervisor at a pub in Hale which he also lived in.But it closed down overnight and he was left with nowhere to live.A few months down the line, he found himself in a homeless shelter in Salford.He said: “It was scary at first, you don’t know what it’s going to be like."It felt a bit like I’d been sent to prison.
