Iceland has withdrawn a rule which told NHS staff they had to buy any product they touched while shopping during priority hours.
The supermarket giant introduced special slots during lockdown for NHS staff and carers with ID. But a policy on Iceland's website yesterday stated that "if NHS workers touch products they have to buy them, they can't put them back." The frozen food chain claimed the rule was to "reduce the risk of contamination" and was part of "strong measures in place to protect our staff".
The policy read: "We have had strong measures in place to protect our staff during the Covid-19 outbreak."We will be limiting payments to cards only (contactless where possible) during the NHS exclusive hours, and aiming to clean stores
