Around 1,500 students and staff at the Ardwick campus are being urged to get tested as soon as possible. It follows an outbreak of 17 cases in one class identified on Friday.
Samples are now being analysed to confirm whether they include the Indian variant B.1.617.2, which is currently driving big rises in infection rates in Bolton and elsewhere.
Two mobile testing units have been deployed to the college campus on Hyde Road and students say they were being asked to visit in groups of five at a time.
