PHILADELPHIA - Longtime Philadelphia labor leader John Dougherty has resigned as the Business Manager of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98 after he was found guilty on federal corruption charges Tuesday.Dougherty tendered his resignation to the Local 98 Executive Board Tuesday night, just hours after he was convicted of eight counts, including conspiracy and honest services wire fraud.

The board also unanimously elected Local 98 Safety Director Mark Lynch to serve as Interim Business Manager."I made this difficult but necessary decision to resign as Business Manager for the good of this union that has been my life’s work and passion," Dougherty said in a statement.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia city councilmember Bobby Henon has resigned as chair of four committees after he was convicted in a federal public corruption case.Henon and co-defendant John Dougherty, longtime business manager of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, were convicted Monday of conspiracy and honest services wire fraud. Henon was also convicted of bribery.

PHILADELPHIA - Longtime Philadelphia labor leader John Dougherty has resigned as the Business Manager of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 98 after he was found guilty on federal corruption charges Tuesday.Dougherty — known widely by his nickname "Johnny Doc" — said he announced his decision to IBEW's executive board hours after Monday's verdict in which he convicted of eight counts, including conspiracy and honest services wire fraud. The board also unanimously elected Local 98 Safety Director Mark Lynch to serve as Interim Business Manager."I made this difficult but necessary decision to resign as Business Manager for the good of this union that has been my life’s work and passion," Dougherty said in a statement.

PHILADELPHIA - The jury in the corruption trial of powerful Philadelphia labor leader Johnny "Doc" Dougherty and City Councilmember Bobby Henon has reached a verdict and is expected to announce it Monday afternoon.Dougherty had been in the FBI’s sights for years before the 2019 indictment charged him with more than 100 crimes, including keeping City Councilmember Bobby Henon in a $70,000-a-year union job while he worked full time in the $140,000-a-year city council post.The union boss has held a tight grip on construction jobs in the Philadelphia region during more than two decades at the helm of Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which has nearly 5,000 members.
