Covid-19 super spreaders: Surat starts green, white health card plan

Why it's difficult to project India's GDP growth for Q4FY21 amid Covid
GDP growth of FY21 range from a contraction of 0.4% to 3.5% growth, signaling the mystery and difficulty involved in assessing growth in a year when the economy saw its worst recession in independent India. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) will release GDP estimate for March quarter and the full year on Monday. On one end of the curve is British multinational bank Barclays which has projected the Indian economy to expand at 3.5% in March quarter of FY21, holding that a low base and strong sequential gains helped propel GDP growth to a five-quarter high.

UK could make COVID-19 jabs compulsory in healthcare, minister says
LONDON : The British government is thinking about making COVID-19 vaccination compulsory for healthcare workers to stop the spread of the virus in hospitals, vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi said on Sunday."It would be incumbent on any responsible government to have the debate, to do the thinking as to how we go about protecting the most vulnerable by making sure that those who look after them are vaccinated," he told Sky News."There is precedent for this; obviously surgeons get vaccinated for hepatitis B. So it's something that we are absolutely thinking about."Never miss a story! Stay connected and informed with Mint.

Rare COVID-19 blood clots tied to cold viruses, German scientists say
blood clotting events among some people who received COVID-19 vaccines made by AstraZeneca Plc and Johnson & Johnson. The researchers, in a study not yet reviewed by experts, said Wednesday that COVID-19 vaccines that employ adenovirus vectors – cold viruses used to deliver vaccine material – send some of their payload into the nucleus of cells, where some of the instructions for making coronavirus proteins can be misread. The resulting proteins could potentially trigger blood clot disorders in a small number of recipients, they suggest.
