Lady Gaga took an optimistic approach with her song selection to kick off Saturday night's (April 18) One World: Together at Home primetime benefit concert, performing Charlie Chaplin's uplifting classic "Smile" while sitting at her keyboard, surrounded by candles.
She put a jangly spin on the standard and emphasized the all-too-appropriate lyrics: "Smile, though your heart is aching/ Smile even though it's breaking/ When there are clouds in the sky/ You'll get by." The pop singer/songwriter curated the night's all-star lineup, which also includes Taylor Swift, John Legend, Paul McCartney and more.
