Legendary French singer Christophe, 74, famous for his ballads dies after a battle with lung disease

FRENCH singer Christophe has died aged 74 after reportedly being treated in hospital for coronavirus. He was one of the most celebrated performers of the chanson style of pop ballad and had a string of hits in the 1960s and 70s.

Last month the French newspaper Le Parisien reported he was in hospital with coronavirus, although that was not confirmed by his family or management.

Today his family told French media he died of the lung disease emphysema. They made no mention of coronavirus contributing to his death.
