Health department officials report probably case of monkeypox at Camden County camp

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Officials with the Camden County Health Department have announced a probable case of monkeypox associated with a camp in Gloucester Township. This brings the county's total to 23 cases of monkeypox. According to health department officials, a lab test with a positive result was reported on Wednesday. After the positive result came back, the department launched an investigation per authorities. Officials did not say if the person who tested positive was a camper or staff. Camden gets $5M in federal money to remove massive pile of toxic dirt

PHILADELPHIA - Officials in Camden hope that millions in federal money will help workers remove a massive pile of toxic dirt that's been a longstanding eyesore and health concern for nearby residents. Mayor Victor Carstarphen said the city will use $5M to remove the estimated 70,000 tons of waste that occupies roughly two blocks on 7th and Chestnut streets. "No resident should have to do it," Carstarphen said. "Proud to say we signed an MOU that allows us to go after and get this taken care of through American Rescue Funds." CAMDEN, N.J. - A New Jersey man admitted Thursday he illegally sold unregistered pesticides as a COVID-19 defense to government and municipal entities including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Veterans Affairs.Paul Andrecola pleaded guilty in federal court in Camden to one count each of wire fraud, selling an unregistered pesticide and presenting false claims.According to a criminal complaint, the 63-year-old Burlington County man made and sold pesticides that weren’t registered with the EPA as required, and weren’t on the EPA’s list of products deemed to be effective disinfectants against COVID-19.Andrecola and others put another company’s EPA registration numbers on his products to hide the fact that they weren't registered, according to the complaint.Federal authorities alleged Andrecola made 150 sales of the unregistered pesticides between March 2020 and May 2021 and made more than $2.7 million.

WILDWOOD, N.J. - Authorities say a swimmer from Philadelphia who went missing in the ocean off the coast of New Jersey was not found after an exhaustive search. The Wildwood Police Department said 19-year-old Alfred Williams was among a group of four swimmers who needed to be rescued from the water last Tuesday. CAMDEN, N.J. - An 18-year-old is dead after officials say a robbery turned deadly this weekend.Mihkael Greene, 19, and Nysar Streater, 21, are charged with first-degree felony murder in connection to the death of 18-year-old Yahmir Catoe.Catoe was reportedly found with a gunshot wound in a park near the 1000 block of Lakeshore Drive in Camden around 10:19 a.m. Saturday. Officials say Catoe was shot and while Greene and Streater, who was also shot while restraining the victim, tried to rob him. The 18-year-old victim was pronounced dead at Cooper University Hospital later that day.Streater was treated for a gunshot wound to his hand, then taken into custody at the hospital Saturday.
