ACLU files complaint with DOJ, Department of Ed. over treatment of LGBTQ students at Central Bucks schools

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa - The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a complaint with several federal agencies against the Central Bucks School District for the treatment of LGBTQ students. According to the ACLU, a complaint was filed with the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and the Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights Thursday. The organization says the complaint was filed on behalf of seven students in the school district who allege "a widespread culture of discrimination against LGBQ&T students, particularly transgender and nonbinary students." According to the ACLU, the complaint is based on a five-month investigation that included interviews with dozens of current and former student and staff members, families and community stakeholders. "The picture that emerged is of a toxic educational environment for LGBQ&T students that has been exacerbated by homophobic and transphobic actions and policies taken recently by the school board and upper-level administrators," the ACLU said. The complaint comes weeks after the school district faced backlash over a policy outlining names and how students can be identified in class. Controversy in a Bucks County school district and it all comes down to the first name that teachers can call students in class.

Former elementary school principal accused of peering into several South Jersey homes, police say

PHILADELPHIA - A former Pennsylvania elementary school principal is facing charges after police say he peered into the windows of several South Jersey homes and even tried to force a woman into her bedroom.Danny McEaddy was arrested in August after investigators believe he spent 7 months looking into windows of homes around Sicklerville. The Upper Darby School District confirmed to FOX 29 that McEaddy was the principal at Hillcrest Elementary school. Investigators from the Winslow Township Police Department say in February McEaddy entered a woman's home and tried to force her into her bedroom, but got away before police arrived. In May, police say he returned to the home and peered into the window. McEaddy was arrested in August when police say he was caught peering into a home in Pitman Borough.

PSP: Human remains discovered in Luzerne County identified as teen missing for more than 50 years

NEWPORT TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Investigators with Pennsylvania State Police have identified a set of human remains as a teen missing for more than 50 years. According to the agency, the human remains were discovered in Luzerne County on November 17, 2002, on the grounds of a former coal-mining operation in Newport Township. Police say the remains have been identified as Joan Marie Dymond, who was 14 years old when she disappeared from Andover Street Park on June 25, 1969. Examination of the remains reveals that Dymond died of suspicious circumstances and lab results indicate that it is highly likely that she died in the late 1960s, troopers say. Investigators were able to identify Dymond by using DNA and comparing it to a DNA sample provided by Dymond's family, according to the agency. SHARON HILL, Pa. - The three Sharon Hill police officers charged in the death of Fanta Bility, 8, are due in court Monday. Elderly woman hospitalized for trauma after suspects rob her home in Delaware County

PROSPECT PARK, Pa. - Prospect Park Police are investigating a theft against an elderly woman who they say was simply gardening in her front yard when she was taken advantage of by two suspects. On September 12, police say an 83-year-old woman was approached by two suspects, who they later identified as Anthony Miguel, 29, and Tasha Delmaro, 31, at her home in Prospect Park. Authorities say the suspects asked the woman about the RV that she had in her driveway as a way to distract her while she was mindlessly gardening. While the woman was chatting with Delmaro about the RV, authorities say Miguel asked the victim if he could use her bathroom and she gladly agreed and let him inside. Instead of using the bathroom, officials say Miguel took all the jewelry he could from the victim's home. Prospect Park Police Chief David Madonna says the suspects showed absolute cruelty in committing this crime as they even used their children as bait for the victim. "This is a woman who was so kind and so trustworthy that she actually gave snacks to the children that were in the backseat of the car.

US gas prices tick up, ending 99-day streak of lower costs

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A 99-day run of falling gasoline prices — a streak that gave consumers a glimmer of hope that red-hot inflation might be cooling — has ended, with pump prices still much higher than a year ago.The nationwide average price for a gallon ticked up less than a penny Wednesday, to $3.68 a gallon, according to AAA. Lawsuit filed against Walmart, hoverboard maker in Hellertown house fire that killed 2 young girls

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - A fire that claimed the lives of two young girls in Northampton County earlier this year is now the catalyst for a federal lawsuit against Walmart and a company that makes hoverboards. Brianna Baer, 15, and Abigail Kaufman, 10, died in a house fire in the early hours of April 1. Authorities say the fire broke out just before 1 a.m. on the 600 block of Linden Street in Hellertown. According to the law firm Kline & Specter, who is representing the girls' parents, the lawsuit was filed against Walmart and Jetson Electric Bikes, alleging that a hoverboard made by Jetson Electric and purchased at Walmart was marketed towards children, but had a "defective and unreasonably dangerous design" that caused it to go up in flames.
