Coronavirus: U.S. National Institutes of Health halts trial of hydroxychloroquine
National Institutes of Health (NIH) is halting its clinical trial of hydroxychloroquine, saying the malaria drug provides no benefits to those with COVID-19.In a press release issued Saturday morning, the NIH said the agency’s data and safety monitoring board (DSMB) met on Friday and determined that while there was no harm, hydroxychloroquine was “very unlikely to be beneficial to hospitalized patients with COVID-19.”“After its fourth interim analysis the DSMB, which regularly monitors the trial, recommended to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of NIH, to stop the study. NHLBI halted the trial immediately,” the statement reads.

New Brunswick reports 1 new coronavirus case in the Campbellton region

Lockdown impact: EPFO records only 1.33 lakh new enrolments in April
New Delhi: The net new enrolments with retirement fund body EPFO recorded at 1.33 lakh during April 2020, according to its payroll data, providing an employment perspective in the formal sector impacted by COVID-19-induced lockdown.The government had imposed lockdown from March 25 to fight COVID-19 in the country.The provisional payroll data released by the EPFO last month had earlier showed that the net new enrollments dipped to 5.72 lakh in March this year compared to 10.21 lakh in February, 2020.The net new enrolments with the EPFO hovers around 7 lakh every month on an average.However, during 2019-20, the number of net new subscribers rose to 78.58 lakh compared to 61.12 lakh recorded by Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO)

Highest single-day jump of 491 corona cases in Andhra
AMARAVATI : Andhra Pradesh recorded the steepest single-day jump of 491 in coronavirus cases on Saturday even as the state's death toll reached 101 with five more fatalities due to the virus.Two deaths each were reported from Krishna and Kurnool districts while one person died in Guntur district.Anantapur reported the highest new cases (97) followed by West Godavari (65) and Chittoor and Krishna districts (51 each).With 491 new cases during the 24-hour cycle, the state's total tally climbed to 8,452. As many as 138 people were discharged from the hospitals during the period, taking the cumulative recoveries to 4,111.Health officials said 22,371 samples were tested during the last 24 hours, of which 491 tested positive.

Ontario reports more than 200 coronavirus cases for 1st time in a week

100% Covid-19 beds in private hospitals to be subsidised: Delhi Deputy CM
New Delhi: Amid objections by the Kejriwal government to his order for mandatory five-day institutional quarantine for COVID-19 patients, Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday said it would be required for only those who do not need hospitalisation and do not have adequate facilities for home isolation. The order of five-day mandatory institutional quarantine was opposed by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Deputy Manish Sisodia in a meeting of Delhi State Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Saturday. Lockdown on for day two, Tamil Nadu CM says it is a ‘speed breaker’
CHENNAI : As lockdown without relaxations continued for day two here, Chief Minister K Palaniswami described it as a 'speed breaker', saying the curbs were being used to further augment detection of COVID-19 cases in Chennai by conducting more door to door surveys and fever camps.All measures are in place for both early identification and treatment of people who test positive, he told reporters after inspecting quarantine amenities at Guru Nanak School in Velachery here.The 12-day lockdown, which came into effect on Friday, is being implemented here and in parts of neighbouring Chengelpet, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur.
