A 'controlling and possessive' man who killed his girlfriend has been detained for life. Mum-of-four Pamela Ann Melor, 55, was strangled and the victim of a sustained and brutal assault at a flat in Handforth, Cheshire.

Last month her boyfriend Matthew Bolland, 44, from Wilmslow, was found to be responsible for her death by a jury. And today a judge ruled that he should be detained at a secure hospital for the rest of his life.

Pamela's body was discovered at the flat on Meriton Road in the early hours of Sunday August 18 last year. The court heard that the flat belonged to a mutual friend and on the night that she died, Saturday August 17 last year, the friend witnessed the pair, who were in an 'on/off relationship' having an argument
