More than 150 people have now died from coronavirus at Salford Royal hospital. Three new announcements at the hospital have now taken the total number of deaths to 151.
New figures released by NHS England have confirmed that 714 people in Salford have tested positive for Covid-19. That’s a daily increase of 74, the largest spike so far.
The previous highest day was on April 5, when there were 35 new cases. It is believed the reason behind the sudden spike is due to an increase in the number of people being tested.
The spike in Salford is in line with other boroughs across Greater Manchester - including Rochdale, which saw an increase of 51 confirmed cases.
