PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia firefighters are battling a two-alarm fire that is tearing through a building in Chestnut Hill. Fire officials say crews responded to Germantown Avenue and Gravers Lane for reports of a fire at a building with retail stores on the lower level and apartments on upper level. According to the Philadelphia Second Alarmers, the team provided additional support to the crews who spent hours fighting the blaze since it broke out early Tuesday morning. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities have not reported any injuries or provided information on the level of damage. Streets in the area remain closed as crews continue to work on putting out the fire. 

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department has launched an investigation after a woman was struck by a car and left in the street in Lawncrest. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Monday night. The woman, 31, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the 5700 block of Rising Sun Avenue, authorities say. Chief Inspector Scott Small says when police and medics arrived on scene, they found her face down and bleeding with face trauma and a broken arm. Medics rushed her to the hospital and she is expected to survive, according to officials. Witnesses told investigators that the car was moving so fast that they could not tell the model or color of the vehicle, Small says. According to police, the woman was walking to her car to get dog training pads from her parked car when she was struck. The dog training pads could be seen spread out in the street after the woman was struck and one of her sneakers remained in the road, police say. Police say the woman was crossing the street to get dog training pads when she was struck by a speeding vehicle.

SAN MARCOS, Texas - A Texas State student from Haiti is making headlines after his mission to adopt a baby he found in the trash back home went viral. Jimmy Amisial, 27, attended Texas State University as a communications major. In 2017, he went home to Haiti to visit family for the new year. MORE FINDING FAMILIESThat's where he found now-4-year-old Emilio Angel Jeremiah, just four months old at the time, abandoned in a pile of trash. "You could see him crying, and he had no clothes on, and he had fire ants crawling all over him," Amisial explained. He says because of Haitian superstitions a group of people surrounding the baby were too afraid to rescue him. "No one wanted to touch the baby because they thought the baby was cursed, they were like it's New Year's Eve, the devil is trying to get us," said Amisial. MORE HOUSTON-AREA NEWSHowever, Amisial, who often volunteers at orphanages, in Haiti said he didn't hesitate to pick the baby up and take him home. Haitian officers and a judge came to his family home, and they asked Amisial, just 22 years old and a college student, if he wanted to become the baby's legal guardian."Even though I didn't know how I was going to take care of him I took a leap of faith by saying yes," Amisial said. Since taking on the responsibility, Amisial has struggled financially.

PHILADELPHIA - Residents in a Philadelphia neighborhood made a frightening discovery Monday afternoon when a oil large drum and smaller buckets were found in a vacant lot between two properties. Emergency crews responded to the 2500 block of West Oxford Street around 5:30 p.m. SkyFOX captured men in hazmat suits investigating the scene and eventually removed the items. Crews soon learned that the drums were filled with heating oil, but it was no less concerning for the residents of the adjacent properties. "It concerned me because I thought that if someone lit a cigarette or match it would just go up in flames," Brittany Blackwell told FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson. Blackwell says she spotted the drums and trash bags a few days ago and called 911 after getting a closer look."They were filled to the brim with what I thought was gasoline," Blackwell said.

PHILADELPHIA - They look mean, they sound mean, they even have an alarming name, but experts say Cicada Killers aren't as aggressive as they might seem. The massive wasp-like insects are commonly seen buzzing around rural areas during the summer months, causing one man to describe them "like a wasp on steroids." The females look the most daunting with large wings and a thick black body. They're busy this time of year hunting cicadas used to nourish their offspring. John Cambridge from the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion explained that the female will stun a cicada with its large stinger and drag the bug underground. MORE LOCAL HEADLINES"The paralyzed cicada will be sitting next to the egg she lays, that wasp will hatch out and the grub will munch on the cicada," Cambridge explained. For some New Jersey residents, the intimidating bag equipped with a serious stinger, has been a common yard partner this summer. "I've seen them four, five times in the past two weeks all over the place," Vincent Amico said.

PHILADELPHIA - One-year after arriving in Philadelphia from war-torn Afghanistan, evacuees gathered at Philadelphia's City Hall on Monday to thank officials and share their stories. Saleh Samit recalled arriving at Philadelphia International Airport after leaving behind his native Afghanistan as part of the Kabul airlift. He was among 2,5000 evacuees that came through Philadelphia during evacuation, 800 of them have remained living in the area. Samit said just a few months after arriving in the United States he got a full-time job and is proudly paying taxes. "We left everything behind we just came with one clothes," Samit said.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is set to announce the offering of a reward in connection with a West Philadelphia hit-and-run that left a woman and two children hurt on Monday. According to authorities, officers were called to the intersection of 50th Street and Haverford Avenue around 10 p.m. for reports of a hit-and-run. Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small told reporters that a 29-year-old woman and two girls, ages 3 and 13, were standing on the side of the road when a vehicle jumped the curb, hit a fire hydrant and then struck the three victims. Police have released surveillance images of a car wanted in connection with a hit-and-run in West Philadelphia.  The vehicle continued driving after it struck the woman and two girls, according to police. The woman was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where she remains in critical condition with a severe leg injury and the girls were sent to CHOP in stable condition. Captain mark Overwise, the Commanding Officer of the Philadelphia Police Department's Accident Investigation District, is holding a press conference at 1 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating a crash in Northeast Philadelphia involving a teenager behind the wheel, according to authorities. Police say a traffic officer on patrol saw a Toyota Camry being driven at a high rate of speed in the area of Grant Avenue and Bluegrass Road around 2:30 a.m. The officer began to follow the vehicle as it traveled to Welsh and Bluegrass where it almost crashed into a marked police car, authorities say. At the intersection of Welsh Road and Dewees Street, the car jumped the curb, crashed through the fence of a private home, and drove over the lawn before it was launched into the air and landed on another car, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The car then crashed into the front of two twin homes, putting a large crack in the stone in the front of the property, authorities say. The damage to the front of the properties is so extensive that inspectors have deemed it unsafe, police say. Small says the officer who was following the Camry then took the driver, a 15-year-old, into custody. Investigators say the car had been reported stolen from Northeast Philadelphia about 1 hour before. Small says speed and reckless driving were a factor in the crash.  

The victim, 34, ran inside a corner store and was followed by the shooter who fired at least two more times. PHILADELPHIA - Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Tacony on Thursday night. Just before 11:40 p.m., medics responded to the intersection of Longshore Avenue and Ditman Street in Philadelphia's Tacony section for a hospital case, according to police. Chief Inspector Scott Small says a man was found with a gunshot wound to the chest and pronounced dead on scene at 11:56 p.m. Medics alerted police that the victim they responded to was shot and officers arrived on location to investigate. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to Small, one spent shell casing was found about four feet away from the victim's body on the sidewalk, indicating that the shooter may have been standing very close to the victim. Police say an unattended vehicle with the engine running was nearby, but investigators aren't sure how it relates to the victim, who is a John Doe at this time. Homicide detectives are searching surveillance cameras in the area as the investigation continues. 

PHILADELPHIA - A man is in police custody after he fatally shot his girlfriend in the head in Tioga, police say. According to Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small, the shooting occurred just before 1 a.m.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say four teenagers are in the hospital after they were shot in North Philadelphia on Thursday morning. According to Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just before 2 a.m.Police say officers with the 6th District responded to numerous 911 calls reporting gunshots and a shooting near 7th and Wallace Streets. When police and medics arrived on scene, they found four shooting victims in the courtyard of the Spring Garden Homes, according to authorities. Small says two of the shooting victims ran inside a property of the Spring Garden Homes after being shot. According to police, the victims were two teenage boys and two teenage girls. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say all of the teenagers are in critical but stable condition and they are expected to be okay. Small says a 16-year-old girl sustained a serious gunshot wound to the face, while a 14-year-old girl was also shot in the face. The boys, ages 13 and 15, were shot in their arms and legs, according to officials.   Small says 21 spent shell casings from a semi-automatic weapon were found in the courtyard of the complex. Investigators say they believe all four of the victims were standing near the home where two of the teens live. According to police, a revolver was also found on the scene, but they do now know how it relates to the shooting. Authorities say they do not have a motive at this time, but said they will check cameras in the area. This shooting came a few hours after another quadruple shooting in West Philadelphia that left several people injured, including a 2-year-old. It also comes at a time when the city has implemented a curfew for children and teens under 18.
