A mosque has been forced to close after an Imam tested positive for coronavirus following a funeral with 250 mourners. Jamia Ghosia mosque in Blackburn, Lancashire, has been shut to worshippers while it undergoes a deep clean and leaders have urged those who attended the funeral on July 13 to self isolate or undergo Covid-19 tests.
The shut down of the mosque comes as Blackburn introduced new measures to combat the spread of coronavirus last week after it saw a sudden spike in local cases.
New data revealed that Blackburn had overtaken Leicester as the area with the highest rate of coronavirus infection in the country, between July 11 and July 17.
