Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has said that employers will have to re-register for the new Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme.
The Government's Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme, introduced after the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March, will become the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme from Tuesday.
Mr Donohoe said the new scheme is broader and will have different rates of pay with the "objective of saving jobs for longer".
The Minister said he expects employers who move into the new scheme will be in it for at least the next six months. "If we do find ourselves in a situation where employers are opting out because of improved business performance, I think this will be really positive and we will have to deal with it on a case by case basis," he
