The MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Terra satellite captured this infrared image of Hurricane Sally on September 16, 2020 (NASA - EOSDIS Worldview) TAMPA, Fla. - The 2021 hurricane season will be another busy one, according to forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, but probably not quite as busy as last year’s record-shattering season.In the 2021 outlook released today, NOAA’s forecasters predicted a 60% chance of an above-normal season, a 30% chance of a near-normal season, and only a 10% chance of a below-normal season.They say that breaks down to a likely range of 13 to 20 named storms – meaning tropical storms with winds of 39 mph or higher – of which six to 10 could become hurricanes, including three to five.
