Brits may not be able to return to normal life until a coronavirus vaccine is available next year, officials have warned. Experts advising the government have said that social distancing measures, such as working from home, may need to stay in place "indefinitely" to prevent new waves of infections after the current lockdown is relaxed.
Plans are being drawn up in Whitehall to gradually bring the UK out of lockdown, with schools potentially among the first to re-open, the Telegraph reports.
However scientists fear it will not be possible to eradicate Covid-19, so some restrictions may need to stay in place until there is an effective vaccine - which is expected to take 18 months.
