Number 10 insists schools aren’t running out of free meal vouchers despite reports of children going hungry because of issues with the system.
Parents and headteachers have been left "frustrated and anxious" by ongoing problems with the online system. And some families have been forced to put food back on the shop shelves after vouchers have been rejected at the checkout, the Association of School and College Leaders has said.
Number 10 denied schools were running out of vouchers, but admitted there had been issues with capacity in the system due to high demand.
They said the supplier, Edenred, had already expanded their system. And the Department for Education has given more cash to schools in case they need to use a different system.
