Pet dog tests positive for Covid as first case confirmed across UK

A pet dog has tested positive for Covid for the first time in the UK after catching the virus from its owners.The case was confirmed by the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) laboratory.The infected dog is currently recovering at home, with its owners having also been struck down with coronavirus.

Whilst there is no evidence dogs - or other domestic animals - can transmit Covid to humans, cases have shown cats and dogs have gotten Covid after contracting it from their owners.

A study showed cats and dogs developing myocarditis or inflammation of the heart muscle after becoming ill with the Alpha variant.
