NEW DELHI : Credit rating agency ICRA Ltd has revised the growth estimates for air passenger traffic to 80%-85% annually during financial year 2022 (FY22) from earlier projected yearly growth of 130%-135% as a result of the ongoing second wave of covid-19 pandemic.Domestic air passenger traffic had during FY21 slipped to 10-year low at 53.4 million primarily due to the covid-19 pandemic.India recorded a total of 140 million domestic air passengers and 65 million international passengers during FY20."In addition to the passengers being apprehensive about air travel, increase in infections forced many state governments to implement strict covid-19 restrictions during the last two months on air travel.

NEW DELHI : For the ninth week in a row, fewer Indians took to the skies, given the fresh surge in covid cases across the country.Average number of daily flyers stood at 49,000 for the week that ended on 23 May, down from 60,000 for the week ending on 16 May, and less than 126,000 in the week ended 1 May, according to a report by ICICI Securities.Average passenger load factor (PLF), an airline industry metric that measures how much of an airline’s passenger carrying capacity is used, was about 30% during the week ended 23 May, the report added.During the week mentioned above, the average number of departures declined sharply to 790 against 948 in the previous week.

Trained dogs could detect Covid infections, indicates new study
LONDON : People who are infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 have a distinct odour that can be detected by trained dogs with a high degree of accuracy, according to new research in the UK.In what has been described as the most complete study of its kind to date, combining dog trial, odour analysis and modelling, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) led collaborative research with the charity Medical Detection Dogs and Durham University to find that specially trained dogs can rapidly and non-invasively detect the disease with up to 94.3 per cent sensitivity and up to 92 per cent specificity.The dogs were able to detect odour from individuals who were asymptomatic, as well as those with two different
