Police in China beat stray dogs to death in the street as the animals were "frightening children and the elderly." Chengguan - China’s urban management officers - have been criticised for their extreme actions against the poor mutts.
A video shared on local media reveals Chengguan in the Jiangxi city of Yingtan using metal poles to beat the animals to death.
The officers are known for meting out harsh punishments for "petty misdemeanours" and have a reputation for brutality, according to the Shanghaiist, who posted the video online yesterday.
In the video, a pool of blood can be seen after the officers repeatedly hit the dogs with the metal poles. The stray dog can be seen falling to the floor and ultimately lying in its own blood.
