PHILADELPHIA - An early morning crash ended with the death of four people and one man arrested Saturday.Police say the crash happened on the Schuylkill Expressway near the Roosevelt Boulevard exit around 1:45 a.m.According to officials with the Pennsylvania State Police, a car driven by a 31-year-old man crossed lanes of traffic, hitting another vehicle.The man’s car spun around and overturned several times before stopping on the right shoulder of the northbound Roosevelt Boulevard off-ramp.The car he hit was pushed forward into a bridge pillar on the highway, killing everyone inside, state troopers said.MORE HEADLINES:The 31-year-old driver is identified as Victor Spizzirri. He was taken to Temple University Hospital with moderate injuries.

PHILADELPHIA - The attorney for a Montgomery County woman who accused of strangling her 11-year-old son to death due to the family's financial hardships says she "snapped under the weight of mental illness."According to court documents, 50-year-old Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead told police her son had been upset and crying on and off all day about their financial difficulties. She did not want him to grow up with these struggles, so she strangled him with her husband's belt as he slept."I am now fully convinced that this is a tragedy solely as a result of her mental health and illness," Defense Attorney Eugene Tinari said.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - It’s the final weekend of the Southeast Youth Athletic Association Carnival and families lined around the block for a chance at some family fun.Last Friday Philadelphia police shut the fair down due to dozens of teenagers who, they say, got out of hand and caused a panic.A 14-year old girl was arrested, but thankfully police say no one was hurt.Jim Houghton has been running the fair for decades and said this is only the second time they’ve had to close early because of fair goers conduct."I’d say even the older kids that were here were not a problem," Houghton said.  "This is just 13, 14, 15-year-old kids boys and girls alike, didn’t matter. CHESTER, Pa. - Residents and environmental activists gathered Friday at a Chester park to denounce the controversial words spoken by Philadelphia mayoral candidate Jeff Brown during Tuesday night's debate. When asked about tons of garbage being trucked to Chester from Philadelphia for processing at a trash-to-energy plant, Brown said his concerns are with the people of Philadelphia. "Chester is Chester I’m worried about Philadelphia and how their lives are what would come first is what would be best for Philadelphia," Brown said from behind a podium on Tuesday. That comment rattled the cage of Chester residents who say they are fed up with the quality of life in the beleaguered river town of 33,000 on the banks of the Delaware River.Chester residents speak out after a question and answer of where Philly's trash ends up during the mayoral debate raises eyebrows and continues to be a topic of sharp conversation."You are a pimp, and we will not be prostituted for pollution and that goes for all the candidates in Philadelphia," Zulene Mayfield said on Friday.The City of Chester is paid $5M yearly by Covanta to process 3,500 tons of waste every day. PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department continues its search for suspects connected to the theft of thousands worth of dimes from a truck in Philadelphia. Authorities say officers responded to the parking lot of a Walmart on Byberry Road in the Northeast section of the city. Investigators say responding officers found an unmarked trailer, which contained about $750,000 worth of dimes, broken open. Police say the initial call came in as a theft with a group of ten more males stealing from the trailer. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, detectives from the Northeast Division and SWAT held the crime scene as investigators surveyed the crime scene. Police say they are searching for multiple male suspects in addition to a white Chrysler 300 and a dark-colored pickup truck. Authorities say about $200,000 worth of dimes were stolen in the heist. Authorities say a parked trailer containing $750k in dimes was broken into overnight. Police found dimes scattered throughout the parking lot and down the street in the aftermath of the heist.

LAWNCREST - A shooting at a Lawncrest rec center Thursday night comes as the city of Philadelphia is trying to make rec centers safer for kids and with summer just weeks away.Authorities say 27 bullets went flying at the intersection of Rising Sun Avenue and Comly Street. Police say it all started when the owner of a Mustang saw it was being broken into.One of the bullets struck the glass of a nearby daycare center, traveling 30 feet inside to the play area. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says no one was hurt."At the time the bullet went into the daycare center, there were a total of 10 people.

Zachary Herbst, Sheila Conway, Robert Sampson, Justin Conway STROUDSBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania man who was arrested for selling drugs to an undercover officer told police that he purchased fentanyl in Kensington to later resell in Monroe County, authorities said. Zachary Herbst, 26, was in a car with his mother, Sheila Conway, and two others when he allegedly sold five bags of heroin/fentanyl to an undercover officer outside a Wawa in Stroudsberg.The arrest follows a two-month investigation into Herbst during which authorities learned that he made frequent trips to Kensington and Paterson, New Jersey to buy drugs for resale. Kensington is over 100 miles away from Monroe County and the drive normally takes about two hours.

EAST FALLS - Philadelphia police are investigating a double shooting in East Falls that critically injured a 27-year-old man.Officials said the shooting happened on the 3200 block of Defense Terrace in Philadelphia’s East Falls neighborhood Thursday afternoon, about 4:45.39th District officers responded, finding that a 27-year-old man who had been shot twice in the head and two times in the leg was taken to Temple University Hospital in a private vehicle and placed in critical condition.MORE HEADLINES:The second victim, a 29-year-old man, was also taken to Temple in a private vehicle, having been shot in the butt four times. EMERYVILLE, Calif. - San Francisco police arrested Nima Momeni, the founder of Expand IT in Emeryville, early Thursday morning in connection with the fatal stabbing death of Cash App founder Bob Lee earlier this month.Efforts to reach Momeni and his company were not immediately successful, but here's what we know so far. Mission Local first reported that Momeni and Lee, who was killed on April 4, knew each other and had been driving through downtown San Francisco together in Momeni's car. But Lee's former wife did not know their exact relationship and she could not explain a motive for the death.MORE: Emeryville entrepreneur arrested in connection with stabbing death of Cash App exec Bob LeeNima Momeni's name appears on the Besler building in Emeryville.  Momeni, 38, was arrested at his live/work space in Emeryville and booked on a homicide charge at San Francisco County Jail. NORTH DIGHTON, Mass. - FBI agents arrested Massachusetts Air National Guardsman Jack Teixeira at a home in North Dighton, Massachusetts, on Thursday in relation to a trove of classified documents that have been leaked online in recent months. Police vehicles were seen at a Massachusetts location believed to be connected with the guardsman. The guardsman's security clearance and access to classified government systems have been revoked, according to an internal government document reviewed by Fox News.The guardsman worked on military intelligence systems on a full-time basis, Fox News is told.The National Guard said in a statement it is aware Thursday of the "alleged role a Massachusetts Air National Guardsman may have played in the recent leak of highly-classified documents" from the Pentagon."The National Guard takes this issue very seriously and will support investigators," the National Guard said in a statement.

NEW DELHI : Coronavirus infections continue to rise across India, with 10,158 new cases detected in the preceding 24 hours, the highest since July 2022. The day also saw 19 deaths due to the viral disease, taking the pandemic’s overall toll to 5,31,035. Three out of four infections in the latest surge are due to XBB.1.16, a sub-variant of Omicron.

Delhi has registered a total of 1,527 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the tally of active cases in the national capital to 3962. A total of 909 Covid-19 patients recovered in the past day. Two patients have also succumbed to the infection.

BOISE, Idaho - Melanie Gibb, the former best friend of Lori Vallow, the so-called "Doomsday mom" who's accused of killing her two youngest children," is testifying in an Idaho courtroom on Thursday. The focus in court on April 12 shifted to the relationship between Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell. A captain in the Madison County Jail who manages the jail's Telmate system for inmates took the stand, and the jury heard a call between the couple that took place in June 2020, as Fremont County Sheriff's deputies and the FBI searched Daybell's property.In the call, Vallow can be heard asking if they are seizing stuff, and Daybell replied that authorities were searching.Cameras are not permitted in the courtroom, but you can listen to the audio.

Florida on Wednesday led to the first Flash Flood Emergency on record in Broward County, as the extent of the historic flooding in Fort Lauderdale was seen in drone video that showed numerous cars that had been submerged and destroyed by the rapidly rising water.According to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, more than 25 inches of rain fell in the Fort Lauderdale area on Wednesday. Once confirmed by the NWS, this event would set a new 24-hour statewide rain record.The previous record of 23.28 inches of rain in a 24-hour period was reported in Key West, Florida.Drone video recorded in Fort Lauderdale shows numerous cars left abandoned and submerged in the rapidly rising floodwaters along what would typically be a busy street.Streets and cars were underwater, buildings flooded, and travelers could not get in or out of Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport and the rain is expected to continue on Thursday.

MISSOURI - It looks like Kansas City is still celebrating victory in Super Bowl LVII based on a new promotion from a milk company in the state. The Shatto Milk Company in Osborn, Missouri, located about 59 miles from Kansas City, is releasing limited-edition milk bottles trolling Philadelphia Eagles fans. The clear bottles are labeled with the title "Eagle Tears" in green letters. According to the company, the milk is cheesecake flavored and only 11,000 bottles will be made. The brand took to social media, saying, "Bottling them was no easy feat. We had to conquer the West, defend our home turf (twice!) and travel all the way to the desert and back.

PHILADELPHIA - A death investigation is underway after the body of a dead man was discovered in Philadelphia. According to police, the body was recovered from the Delaware River in the area of Christopher Columbus Boulevard and Race Street just after 8 a.m. on Thursday. Officials say a man in his 30s, currently being identified as a John Doe, was found unresponsive. Authorities say he had a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. He was pronounced dead by medics on scene, according to law enforcement. This is a developing story.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives with the Philadelphia Police Department are investigating the shooting death of a man in Philadelphia, authorities say. According to officials, the shooting occurred on the 2100 block of Gould Street in the city's Southwest Philadelphia section just after midnight on Thursday. Authorities say a 28-year-old man was shot once in the stomach. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESHe was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital by police, where he was pronounced dead at 12:58 a.m., per police. Officials say the shooting scene has not been found and no arrest has been made. 

HORSHAM, Pa. - A Montgomery County family has been left in shambles after officials say an 11-year-old boy was killed by his own mother, who then tried to drive her car into the ocean at the Jersey Shore.Police were called to a house 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township Tuesday when a man said he discovered his son dead in the master bedroom.The boy's dad told police the 11-year-old had slept in bed with his mom the night prior, but the door was locked the next morning, and his wife's car was missing.Officials say an investigation revealed that the boy's mom, identified as 50-year-old Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead, killed her son as he slept in her bed.MORE HEADLINES:She then fled to Cape May and drove into the ocean until her car was inoperable. PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia officials have announced "an independent and comprehensive evaluation" of the Philadelphia 76ers’ proposal to build a $1.3 billion sports arena next to the city's Chinatown neighborhood, an idea that's drawn strong opposition from some Chinatown residents and leaders.Mayor Jim Kenney on Wednesday called the proposal announced last summer "an exciting opportunity" but said officials must understand the impact it may have on the surrounding communities before any plans move forward."In the coming months, he said, city and public agency partners as well as third-party consultants will complete technical studies on the feasibility and impacts of such an arena in the proposed location. He said that would include assessing "building design, community impact and urban planning, economic impact and parking/traffic impact."Kenney also said the developers must ensure that the project "works for the surrounding communities" that would be affected and urged that they be "involved and engaged throughout every step of this process."The city's announcement came hours before an evening meeting scheduled in Chinatown by opponents of the arena, which would be built just a block away from the community's prominent gateway arch with a planned opening in 2031.
