PHILADELPHIA - An innocent bystander became the victim of a double shooting after an attack quickly escalated inside a hookah bar in Chinatown early Saturday morning.Police say a 27-year-old man sucker-punched and assaulted an armed security guard at Day 'N' Nite Hookah Bar on Cherry Street just after midnight.When he tried to attack with a hookah, the security reportedly drew his weapon and fired three times, hitting the attacker at least once in the hip. A 22-year-old woman became "collateral damage" when she was struck in the thigh by one of the bullets, according to police.Both the man and woman were transported to local hospitals, where they are said to be in stable condition.MORE HEADLINES:Police say the security guard and his attacker knew each other, and had some history.

TRUCKEE, Calif. - The unsolved disappearance of Kiely Rodni prompted several Northern California law enforcement agencies to take a closer look at registered sex offenders in the area as the search for the missing teen nears week two.The sweeps to see if sex offenders are in compliance with law enforcement occurred throughout the Truckee and North Tahoe area Thursday and resulted in one arrest for charges not related to Kiely's case, according to the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Charges are expected to be filed on a second person, who also is not related to the teen's disappearance.The operation also found several sex registrants in violation of their terms, the sheriff's office said.Meanwhile, many young people who attended the same party as Kiely, 16, in Truckee on the night she vanished are remaining tight-lipped, according to a report from the New York Post, Several hundred people attended the gathering at a campground on the night of August 5.

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Authorities say a two-year undercover investigation resulted in 85 arrests, the seizure of over $12.8 million worth of drugs, and the dismantling of an international drug trafficking organization whose ringleaders operated out of Winter Haven.The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the investigation started in September 2020, when 32-year-old Demarcus Jefferson crashed his car into a Winter Haven gas station, killing a customer inside.Sheriff Grady Judd said surveillance video from the gas station showed people in masks running up to the totaled vehicle and grabbing items from the car's trunk before deputies arrived at the scene. According to the sheriff, they were taking drugs out of the trunk so deputies wouldn't find them during their crash investigation.Matt Murphy, who witnessed the 2020 gas station crash, told FOX 13 at the time that after the driver crashed through the building, an SUV showed up.

PHILADELPHIA - The Berks County District Attorney has ruled that a father's fatal shooting of his son was justified. Authorities say the shooting occurred on Saturday, August 13, on the 600 block of North Front Street in Reading. According to the DA's Office, police responded to the home for reports of a domestic incident. Police say Alexis Martinez was visiting his father and threatened him. Martinez, who has a history of assaults and mental health issues, had been drinking prior to the incident, the DA's Office says. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOfficials say during a confrontation in the home, Martinez threw a glass beer bottle at his father and threatened him with a large knife and another weapon. According to authorities, Martinez was then shot by his father and he was later pronounced dead on the scene. The DA's Office says the shooting was justified. "After a thorough review of the above incident and after consultation with the Reading Police Department, the District Attorney has determined that the homicide of Alexis Martinez by his father was a justified use of force," the office said. No additional details were released by authorities.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating a double shooting that left one man dead and another injured in Germantown early Friday morning. According to police, officers responded to a 911 call for a shooting on West Aspley Street just before 1:30 a.m. Responding officers found a 25-year-old man sitting inside an unattended parked Nissan Sedan, authorities say. Medics realized he had been shot and pronounced him dead at 1:47 a.m., according to officials. Investigators say they believe he was shot outside the car but was able to run to get into the car. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to police, the man did not have shoes on, but one was found inside the car and the other was found outside of the vehicle. A few minutes after officers responded, a shooting victim showed up at Temple University Hospital. The 21-year-old victim was placed in stable condition, according to authorities. Police say he was uncooperative, but investigators found clothing they believe belongs to him at the scene. Seven spent shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting, authorities say. The shooting remains under investigation.

PHILADELPHIA - For the second time this month, activists gathered in front of Sharon Hill’s Borough Hall to demand the release of more information on the police killing of an 8-year-old last August.Authorities say in late August, Fanta Bility and her family were leaving the Academy Park High School football field among a crowd of fans when a shooting between two young men erupted. Bullets from that shooting came in the direction of three Sharon Hill Police officers who were monitoring the crowd. The officers returned fire, shooting toward a car they believed was involved in the initial gunfire, striking the car and members of the crowd.

HOLLISTER, Calif. - A San Jose fire captain is grappling with an unthinkable tragedy after all three of his children were killed in a car crash Sunday evening.Captain Steve Biakanja of San Jose Fire Station 16 lost his 14-year-old twin daughters Leigh and Lucy, and 12-year-old son Ben, in a crash on Highway 156 in Hollister.The children's mother also died in the crash.Captain Steve Biakanja pictured alongside his children, Leigh, Lucy, and Ben.  According to the California Highway Patrol, the four were traveling in a Tesla on eastbound Highway 156 when, for unknown reasons, their vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and hit a tractor-trailor.Investigators are trying to determine why the Tesla crossed into oncoming traffic.The Carmel Unified School District said that Leigh, Lucy, and Ben were all enrolled at Carmel Middle School and attended Tularcitos Elementary School before that.Superintendent Ted Knight told KION-TV, "Coming back, the second week of school to this news this morning was certainly very tragic and was hard for a lot of staff and students to hear."Knight said the deaths of Leigh, Lucy, and Ben has taken a toll on some of their classmates."Some students did need to go home. Video obtained by FOX 29 captured audio of the explosion of gunfire."They were on the floor, they were on the ground, it was just crazy," Green recalled. Five people were injured, two critically, when nearly 100 shot rang out near a West Philadelphia playground.

PHILADELPHIA - Authorities say five people were hurt when nearly 100 shot were fired near a playground in West Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department responded to the 400 block of North 57th Street around 7 p.m. after hearing gunshots. Police found five people between the ages of 17 and 25 suffering from gunshot wounds, including a 16-year-old and a 21-year-old who were shot in the head. Two others, ages 17 and 25, suffered graze wounds and a 22-year-old was shot in the hand. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESInvestigators believe the shooting happened when two shooters in a white SUV fired multiple rounds and fled the scene. Captain John Walker told reporters that responding officers saw four men pile into a vehicle that fled the scene and later crashed on nearby Farson Street. The men jumped out of the car and tried to run from police, but three were taken into custody.
