Today marks six months since the World Health Organization declared the new coronavirus a public health emergency of international concern.
The pandemic is still accelerating in many countries - including the two worst affected, the United States and Brazil. The United States recorded a coronavirus death every minute yesterday - as the death toll surpassed 150,000.
1,461 new deaths were recorded, the highest one-day increase since May. States with one-quarter of the US population - California, Florida and Texas - saw a record rise in Covid-19 deaths for the second day.
The world's second worst affected country, Brazil registered record daily numbers of infections and deaths yesterday, sending its overall death toll surging past 90,000.
