The Royal Bolton Hospital will more than double its COVID testing capacity thanks to a new machine dubbed 'the panther'.Bosses say the new technology will help speed up on-site coronavirus screening of staff and patients across the hospital.The machine, called the Hologic Panther, has boosted testing from nose and throat swabs to 500 a day.The hospital's existing technology was able to screen up to 200 samples a day, a capacity which was put to the test during the first wave of the pandemic.Testing capacity was put under more pressure when pre-op patients were screened prior to attending the hospital.Lab bosses say the arrival of the Panther will help the hospital cope with a second wave of coronavirus.It will also process all the of the.
