SIPTU has told members in Aer Lingus that the union has until 6pm this evening to indicate acceptance of proposals for work practice reforms aimed at staving off further pay cuts and layoffs caused by the Covid-19 collapse in the aviation sector.
In a memo to members after briefings yesterday, SIPTU Transport Divisional Organiser Karan O'Loughlin said that due to the pressure of time and public health restrictions, the proposals cannot be put to them for a ballot.
However, she said that the proposals, while not ideal, are the best outcome that can be achieved in the current circumstances, and stressed that the possibility of "reward payments" from 2022 remains when the sector recovers.
