Good morning, good afternoon and good evening.WHO is continuing to respond to the new Ebola outbreak in the city of Mbandaka, in the Equateur province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. So far, 8 cases have been detected.
Four of those have died and the other 4 are receiving care. To be clear, this outbreak is in the same area as a previous outbreak in 2018, which was stopped in just 3 months. However, it is on the other side of the country to the Ebola outbreak that WHO and partners have been fighting for almost 2 years in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri, in eastern DRC.The latest person confirmed with Ebola attended the burial of one of the first cases, but was detected in the town of Bikoro, 150 kilometres away from Mbandaka.
