Sporting organisations are to meet Government ministers and the Acting Chief Medical officer over current coronavirus restrictions.
Minister for Sports Catherine Martin, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and Dr Ronan Glynn are meeting the GAA, IRFU and Sport Ireland.
Limits on mass gatherings were reintroduced last month, with sporting events and matches taking place behind closed doors. It is understood Minister Martin is keen to see restrictions lifted on spectator numbers for events, but in way that is safe and in line with health guidelines.
Sources say her department and officials will listen to concerns of sports bodies and suggestions regarding the management of events.
