Suicides among British troops have more than DOUBLED in a decade, new figures reveal. Serving members of the armed forces are now killing themselves at a rate of more than one every fortnight.
In 2011, 13 suicides were recorded but by 2019 there were 27, data from the Office for National Statistics shows. Deaths have increased almost every year – even though the size of the forces has been cut by almost 40,000 since 2010.
This year at least 17 members of the military and 67 veterans have taken their own lives, according to ex-forces support group Veterans United Against Suicide.
