Tesco is introducing purchasing limits on certain staple items including eggs and toilet roll. The supermarket giant said it was introducing the temporary cap on certain "essential" items to "help all customers have access to these products".

A letter sent by Tesco and seen by the The Mirror urges people to shop "as normal" so everyone can get hold of what they need.

The new measures mean customers won't be able to buy more than one pack of toilet rolls. They will also only be able to buy up to three items when it comes to eggs, rice and soap.

Tesco previously introduced caps in September in a bid to prevent a shortage of items following the panic-buying seen at the height of the first wave of coronavirus in March.
