'This is just nonsense': Confusion as Bolton released from lockdown - despite borough's massive spike in Covid-19 cases

Bolton has been met by with surprise and confusion.From today, the town is no longer included in the Greater Manchester-wide lockdown despite a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in recent days.The latest data shows that Bolton currently has the second highest rate of new coronavirus infections in the country.There were 170 new cases in the week from August 23 to 29, with the infection rate now standing at 59.1 per 100,000 people.This has quickly risen from 18.4 the week before, when 53 people tested positive.Only Pendle in Lancashire has posted higher numbers, with 66 new cases in the same period - and a smaller population - leading to a rate of 71.7.The spike in new infections came as Bolton was set to be released from the region-wide.
