A tourist couple quarantining in Mexico amid worldwide lockdown due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic were shot and killed in a deadly attack.

Pat Landers, 32, from Syracuse, New York, and his girlfriend Karla Baca died after shots were fired at their Jeep, the New York Post reports.

The couple were driving in the streets of Juarez in broad daylight on Monday when a hail of bullets was fired at their Jepp – which featured New York number plates.

Police reported at least 20 bullets were fired at the vehicle, while local officials have noted recent violent events in Mexico have been linked to drug cartels fighting for control of the crystal meth market.
