The UK's coronavirus death toll has climbed by 11 bringing the number of fatalities in all settings to 41,358. The number of new Covid-19 cases was reported to be 1,441 on Friday - a huge increase from 1,009 cases reported on Wednesday and the 1,129 recorded yesterday.
The seven-day rolling average for number of confirmed cases is now more than 1,000. Overall, a total of 316,367 cases have been confirmed.
The number of new cases has hit its highest level since June 14 and will fuel fears of a second wave of the virus. Separate figures published by the UK's statistics agencies show there have been 56,800 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
