A further 917 people have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus bringing the death toll to 9,875. The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus has risen by 5,233 to 78,991 from 73,758 at the same time yesterday.
More than 18,000 tests were carried out on Friday. The latest update from the Department of Health reads: "As of 9am 11 April, 334,974 tests have concluded, with 18,091 tests on 10 April. "269,598 people have been tested of which 78,991 tested positive. "As of 5pm on 10 April, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 9,875 have sadly died." The UK recorded its highest increase in deaths on Friday when the total rose by 980 in 24 hours.
