A Brit military laboratory is testing the effectiveness of an insect repellant in killing coronavirus and troops have already been told to apply it to their skin.
The top-secret Porton Down lab in Wiltshire – which was set up after WW1 – is researching the chemical citriodiol which is derived from a species of eucalyptus tree, Sky News reports.
If it is shown to work, citriodiol would not be a treatment for people who have the disease but act as a topical barrier on the skin to try and prevent infection.
Covid-19 is believed to mainly be transmitted by droplets in the air but if it gets on someone's skin they can get infected by touching their mouth, nose, or eyes.
