The government has confirmed today that a further 93,045 Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the UK as of 9am on Friday. It's the highest daily total recorded since the pandemic began - and a rise of 4,669 on the previous record set on Thursday.
The Government said a further 111 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19. But separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have now been 172,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.
It is not yet known how many of today's daily cases are of the Omicron variant. But yesterday, the UK Health and Security Agency confirmed there was a total number of 11,708 Omicron cases in the UK.
