The Washington Post (5/18, Natanson) reports the Virginia Department of Education is investigating Fairfax County Public Schools following allegations it “failed to provide equal learning opportunities to students with disabilities during the coronavirus shutdown, as mandated by state and federal law.” According to a complaint by five parents and other documents, a few weeks after schools shut down FCPS told parents it was pausing the students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) until in-person schooling resumed.
FCPS spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell “confirmed that IEPs ‘will be implemented when we resume school,’ and she said officials are working to develop temporary learning schedules for these students in the interim.”.
