PHILADELPHIA - Temperatures will plunge overnight in the wake of powerful thunderstorms that brought damaging winds and heavy downpours to the region on Monday.
The National Weather Service issued a near region-wide Severe Thunderstorm Watch ahead of a thin, but mighty, line of storms that packed 70 MPH wind gusts.
The watch was briefly upgraded to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The most extensive damage from the storm was downed trees and power lines that left thousands without electricity.
PSE&G, which serves several populated counties in New Jersey, reported more than 3,500 outages and PECO added over 12,000.
