NEW DELHI : Five senior pilots of Air India have died in May due to COVID-19, senior officials said on Thursday, adding that the carrier has started vaccinating its employees from May 15 onwards after a delay due to non-availability of vaccines.These five senior pilots were Captain Harsh Tiwary, Captain G P S Gill, Captain Prasad Karmakar, Captain Sandeep Rana and Captain Amitesh Prasad, they said.Meanwhile, private carriers such as Vistara and AirAsia India have given at least the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine to around 99 per cent and 96 per cent of their eligible employees respectively as of now. 624 doctors died in second wave of Covid, most of them in Delhi, says IMA
Covid-19 infections in the country so far, with Delhi accounting for 109 such deaths, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said on Thursday.The latest data revealed by the IMA shows that nearly every second doctor who died in the second Covid-19 wave died either in New Delhi (over a sixth of the total fatalities), Bihar (96) and Uttar Pradesh (79).As many as 748 doctors had died of coronavirus across the country in the first wave of the pandemic, the IMA said.Meanwhile, India on Thursday recorded 1,34,154 new cases of coronavirus in a span of 24 hours, taking the country's infection tally to 2,84,41,986.India's active caseload has further declined to 17,13,413.
