Wuhan has launched a mass testing programme after a string of new infections sparked fears of a second outbreak. The city, in China, where the coronavirus first emerged, has had six new infections.

Images show people lining up to have throat swabs taken by medical workers, with social distancing being ignored and nurses not using gloves in some cases.

The huge project aims to test the city, with a population of 11million, in 10 days. But that would take a whopping 800,000 tests a day and the city only has capacity for 100,000 a day, reports The Times.

Covid-19 first emerged in Wuhan at the start of last year. Its source has not yet been confirmed, although it has been suggested the disease may have come from a wet food market.
